I. One-Point Perspective. To create a drawing using one-point perspective, begin with a horizontal line (the horizon) and a point on the line (the vanishing point). Remember, all vertical lines remain vertical!
1. Construct a vertical segment BC below the horizon (use the perpendicular line tool to ensure your segment is vertical).
2. Construct segments BA and CA, connecting each vertex to the vanishing point. In the object properties window, change the line style
to a dotted line.
3. Construct rectangle BCDE (using the perpendicular line tool and the intersect objects tool).
Be sure to hide unnecessary lines as you work.
4. Construct segments DA and EA, connecting each vertex to the vanishing point. In the object properties window, change the line style
to a dotted line.
5. Construct point F on segment BA. Construct a vertical and horizontal line passing through point F. Intersect the vertical line with segment CA
and the horizontal line with segment DA.
6. Construct rectangle FGIH.
7. Use the polygon tool to construct each of the six faces for the polyhedron. Use the object properties window to change the color
and make the hidden edges appear as dashed lines.
8. Drag the vanishing point to change the perspective. Drag the vertices to change the dimensions of the rectangular prism.
II. Two-Point Perspective. To create a drawing using two-point perspective, begin with a horizontal line (the horizon) and two points on the line (the vanishing points). Remember, all vertical lines remain vertical!
1. Construct a vertical segment CD below the horizon (use the perpendicular line tool to ensure your segment is vertical).
2. Hide line CD and construct segments CA, DA, CB, and DB, connecting each vertex to each vanishing point. In the object properties window, change the line style
to a dotted line.
3. Construct point E on segment CA and construct a vertical line passing through point E. Intersect the line with segment DA.
4. Construct segment EF and hide line EF.
5. Construct point G on segment CB and construct a vertical line passing through point G. Intersect the line with segment DB.
6. Construct segment GH and hide line GH.
7. Construct segments EB and FB, connecting the left side to the right vanishing point. Construct segments GA and HA, connecting the right side to the
left vanishing point. Change the line style to dotted.
8. Intersect segments FB and HA. Intersect segments EB and GA.
9.Use the polygon tool to construct each of the six faces for the polyhedron. Use the object properties window to change the color
and make the hidden edges appear as dashed lines.
10. Drag the vanishing point to change the perspective. Drag the vertices to change the dimensions of the rectangular prism.
